Flower Shop from Stampin' Up!

  • Hello yellow; you make me feel so mellow...
  • Retiring embossing folders up to 50% off

Flower Shop from Stampin' Up!

One stamp sets that WON'T retire May 31 is the Flower Shop set. . . and that makes me very happy.  I used one of the detailed pansies from Flower Shop and stamped it twice on Daffodil Delight cardstock then layered them together to make the flowers for this card.  The centers of each pansy include a new Glitter Enamel Dot.  I had planned to use the triple leaves from the Flourish dies on this card, but when I opened the package of Flourish dies, this larger stem ad leaf die jumped out at me say "use me!; use me!".  Some time you just have to listen to those little voices.

The Flourish thinlits works best if you run the die and cardstock through the Big Shot a couple of time and then reposition it on another area of your Big Shot precision plate and run it through two more times.  I always look at the back to ensure that every line has cut through, and then when I use the die brush and foam to remove the tiny pieces, it comes out cleanly and looks beautiful.  To attach this delicate die cut to the Whisper White piece that had been embossed with the Elegant Dots Textured Impressions Embossing folder I knew that the fine-tipped glue pen or the multipurpose liquid glue might not hold well on the textured surface and could create a glue mess. So I used the tip of my paper piercer to roll up glue dots and added the smaller glue dots at strategic points on the detailed die cut.  It worked really well and was no more time consuming than adding glue from the fine tipped glue pen to all of the detailed surface.

Notice the white, stitched Xs on the ribbon?  This is the new 1/4" Daffodil Delight double-stitched ribbon.  It has two rows of parallel stitching on one side.  When you use the opposite side of the ribbon, it has rows of Xs.

The sentiment is from the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set, one of the new sets in the June 1 catalog
. It is stamped in Basic Black Archival ink.   It is stamped on an oval from the Stitched Sahpes Framelits die set, which can be purchased now using order number 145372, and will premiere in the new June 1 catalog.

Grateful Bunch and Punch from Stampin' Up!

  • Daisies from the Grateful Bunch set
  • Retiring items and Clearance Rack items

Grateful Bunch

So, Dear Husband decided to join my weekly grocery shopping trip this morning.  I was pleased, but I knew my regular shopping routine of 5 or 6 stops to maximize my trip would need to be reduced to accommodate his shorter shopping attention span.

We arrived at Costco, and after a quick grazing at the food court, he grabbed the cart and we were off to the races.  Then he surprised me and said he was going to go up and down every aisle.  Well, that lasted about 10 aisles before he started skipping around the food aisles eating those risky samples served up throughout the store. (I'm telling you, don't eat the crab or anything with beans  or you'll be doing a quick two-step to the the little girls room most of the next day.)   As I grabbed for items on our regular shopping list, he picked up strange items like green pea crisps (dried sugar peas), crispy coconut rolls with roasted black sesame seeds,  and a big jar of Jelly Belly jelly beans left over from Easter.  True!  There were only about 10 total jars on display -- not the usual 10 cases, like most of their displays.

About 3/4 of the way through the store he says, "Okay, I think we're ready to go, now."   I quickly ticked off 7 or 8 additional items on our weekly list from the aisles we hadn't hit yet.  I knew I would never get him to back-track to the paper goods in the back of the store, but I was able to get most of the rest of our list before he sprinted out the door.  As he loaded the 36-can soda cases, cases of almond milk and other bulk items into the trunk, he exclaimed.  "Boy, this grocery shopping is really tiring!"   I didn't have the heart to tell him that this was 1/5 of the normal grocery shopping I do on my weekly trip.

Next stop was Starbucks for a giant 420 calories, 34g of sugar Iced Carmel Mocha Frappuccino or something like that -- I can never remember the names of those specialty drink in the giant cups with the whipped cream toppers-- to reward him for shopping with me....and, so I had an excuse to grab coffee beans and tick off one more of my weekly shopping stops.  It WAS nice to have his company -- a rare treat!  BUT, I'll need to make a second trip this week to finish the rest of our grocery list.

I looked over my posts this weeks and it looks like I've been on a flower kick.  I'm continuing that momentum with another flower card today using Grateful Bunch.  I began with a Whisper White basecard with a background created with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.

I picked a Real Red polka dot paper from the  12 X 12 Designer Series Paper Stacks.   Then I grabbed a bunch of Whisper White scraps and stamped a bunch of Real Red daises from the Grateful Bunch stamp set, and punched them out with the Blossom Bunch punch.

I scattered the smallest of the three daisies onto the Whisper White portion of the card and layered the two larger daisies at the top of the card and accented each daisy with Basic Pearls.

The sentiment label was created with the Special Reasons stamp set and cut with the Stylish Stems Dies. The sentiment is from the Sunburst Sayings set.

I finished the card, looked at it, and kicked myself for the color I chose for the sentiment.  We have Memorial Day coming up in late May.  Using blue ink for the sentiment turns this card into a great, patriotic card for use in a few weeks.  I used Marina Mist on this final version and really liked how it turned out.
