Papillon Potporri -- another favorite Stampin' Up! set retiring May 31

  • Butterflies in Bermuda Bay
  • Retiring list

Papillon Potpourri from Stampin' Up!

One of my favorite stamp sets on the retiring list that I will greatly miss is the Papillon Potpourri stamp sets.  This simply card shows off just one of the several butterflies in this set.   The Softly Falling Textured Impression Embossing folder created the background for on the main panel of this card.

I used Bermuda Bay for the basecard, background layer, and the ink for the butterflies.  I also used the Bermuda Bay Brights Enamel Shapes on the corner of the top butterfly. The small "hello" is one of the two hellos in the Thoughtful Banners stamp set.  That sentiment set includes a wide assortment of sentiments that can be used alone or as part of different banner shapes included in this set.  It is one of the sets hat will carry over to the new catalog.

The Stitched Shapes Framelits were used to cut the Whisper White squares for the butterflies.  This was a very fast card to create yet the amount of detail from the embossing and detailed stamp adds interest to this card.

Flower Shop from Stampin' Up!

  • Hello yellow; you make me feel so mellow...
  • Retiring embossing folders up to 50% off

Flower Shop from Stampin' Up!

One stamp sets that WON'T retire May 31 is the Flower Shop set. . . and that makes me very happy.  I used one of the detailed pansies from Flower Shop and stamped it twice on Daffodil Delight cardstock then layered them together to make the flowers for this card.  The centers of each pansy include a new Glitter Enamel Dot.  I had planned to use the triple leaves from the Flourish dies on this card, but when I opened the package of Flourish dies, this larger stem ad leaf die jumped out at me say "use me!; use me!".  Some time you just have to listen to those little voices.

The Flourish thinlits works best if you run the die and cardstock through the Big Shot a couple of time and then reposition it on another area of your Big Shot precision plate and run it through two more times.  I always look at the back to ensure that every line has cut through, and then when I use the die brush and foam to remove the tiny pieces, it comes out cleanly and looks beautiful.  To attach this delicate die cut to the Whisper White piece that had been embossed with the Elegant Dots Textured Impressions Embossing folder I knew that the fine-tipped glue pen or the multipurpose liquid glue might not hold well on the textured surface and could create a glue mess. So I used the tip of my paper piercer to roll up glue dots and added the smaller glue dots at strategic points on the detailed die cut.  It worked really well and was no more time consuming than adding glue from the fine tipped glue pen to all of the detailed surface.

Notice the white, stitched Xs on the ribbon?  This is the new 1/4" Daffodil Delight double-stitched ribbon.  It has two rows of parallel stitching on one side.  When you use the opposite side of the ribbon, it has rows of Xs.

The sentiment is from the Fabulous Flamingo stamp set, one of the new sets in the June 1 catalog
. It is stamped in Basic Black Archival ink.   It is stamped on an oval from the Stitched Sahpes Framelits die set, which can be purchased now using order number 145372, and will premiere in the new June 1 catalog.

Recipe:

Stamp: Flower Shop, Fabulous Flamingo (Sentiment)
Ink:  Crushed Curry, Basic Black Archival
Paper:  Whisper White, Basic Black, Daffodil Delight
Accessories:   Pansy Punch, Glitter Enamel Dots, Flourish Thinlits, Elegant Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Stitched Shapes Framelits,  1/4" Daffodil Delight Double Stitched Ribbon,   Standard Cutting Pads, Precision Base Plate, Big Shot Platform, Big Shot Die Brush, Big Shot, Stampin' Scrub, Stampin' Mist, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Dimensional, Glue Dots

Traveler stamp set...another retiring set from Stampin' Up!

  • Old camera and other Traveler items retires
  • Less than one month to purchase Retiring items

Traveler from Stampin' Up!

Another wonderful set that retires May 31 is the Traveler set from Stampin' Up!.  This card is dear to my heart because the old-fashioned pull-out camera is one of the antiques passed down to me from my father.  The decor of my home is pretty eclectic; more towards a modern look...except for a couple of antique furniture pieces, including an antique mahogany fold-down secretary desk with a number of pigeonholes.  This camera and the desk are so special because my mom and dad and I were shopping garage sales one one the the few trips they made from Minnesota to visit us in Houston.  We found the antique desk together, and the camera found a wonderful home where I could look at it every day.  This card reminds me of the wonderful memories with my mom and dad.

The Travelers stamp set includes six images, all with the same amount of detail as the camera on this card.  Sadly, it will retire May 31.  I think this card works for either a mother's day or a father's day card and  used it to make a card that could be used for either Mother's Day or Father's Day.  I used a Soft Suede base card and then a layer in Basic Black, which seemed appropriate for a camera.  Then I made a frame out of wood grain paper from the new Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack. that reminded me of the Mahogany drop down secretary desk where my camera sits.   I used the Layering Squares Framelits to make the frame, and then used the smalled Stitched Shapes Framelits Die to make the oval for the sentiment.

The ribbon is a small piece of the 5/8" burlap ribbon, which will carry over to the new catalog, along with a small piece of the new 1/4" Copper Trim from the upcoming June 1 catalog.  The sentiment is stamped in Soft Suede.

The sentiment is from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set, an extremely versatile set with over 4
6 different sentiments and 3 different banner outlines. This sentiment set is from the current catalog, and will carry over to the new catalog.  It has a coordinating punch to punch out the banner shapes, or the sentiments work on many other sentiment shapes, like the ovals I used on these cards.

Recipe:

Stamp:  Traveler, Thoughtful Banners
Ink:  Soft Suede
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Soft Suede, Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack
Accessories:   5/8" Burlap Ribbon, 1/4 " Copper Trim, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Layering Squares Framelits, Layering Ovals Framelits, Standard Cutting Mat Pads Precision Base Plate, Big Shot Platform, Big Shot Die Brush, Big Shot, Stampin' Scrub, Stampin' Mist, Multipurpose Liquid Glue, Dimensional
